Mason County Courthouse
Mason, Texas
Winner of 2024 Golden Hammer Award
In February 2021, a fire tore through the heart of Mason, Texas, consuming the historic Mason County Courthouse and 115 years of Texas heritage with it. What remained wasn’t just charred stone; it was a challenge. A call to rebuild not just the structure, but the legacy.
Anchor Roofing Systems answered that call.
This wasn’t a typical roofing job. It was a high-profile restoration of a historic structure, requiring specialized expertise in architectural sheet metal, attention to period accuracy, and an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship. Anchor was trusted with the precision restoration of the courthouse’s most iconic exterior details because when quality matters most, you don’t call just anyone.
Scope of Work
- 5,636 square feet of metal shingles
- 1,800 square feet of TPO membrane
- 185 linear feet of custom gutters
- 208 linear feet of custom downspouts
- 8 custom collector heads
- 1,114 linear feet of custom cornice work, including window sills, dormers, portico edge, roof edge, and water diverters
Each element had to be designed, fabricated, and installed with zero margin for error. With no room for post-installation corrections, Anchor committed to a zero-punch list approach, delivering flawless work the first time.
A Job That Demanded More Than Skill
The project required over 6,000 labor hours, not because of size, but because of the complexity and customization. High-slope metal shingle installation on 6:12 pitches created dangerous work conditions. Both the underlayment and metal finish presented traction challenges, forcing all work to be done from lifelines. Every cut, every seam, and every connection had to be executed with precision under pressure.
What made this project even more critical was that Anchor performed all architectural metal work in-house, from fascias and soffits to collector heads and cornice pieces. Nothing was subcontracted. Nothing was left to chance.
Why Anchor Was Chosen
This project wasn’t just about rebuilding, it was about getting it right. The county couldn’t afford to work with vendors who outsource critical details or compromise on quality. Anchor Roofing Systems stood out because of their ability to self-perform complex scopes, maintain strict safety standards, and fabricate high-end architectural metal in their own facility.
Legacy Restored. Trust Earned.
The Mason County Courthouse stands once again, historic on the outside, modern in its execution, and restored with a level of care and precision worthy of the original. When history called, Anchor answered not just with tools and materials, but with integrity, craftsmanship, and a legacy of trust.
